Don't get me wrong, I think that all relationships and friendships have some sort of compromise involved and that's fine. But the thing that really annoys me is when people change pretty much their whole personality to please someone or to 'fit in'.
This has happened to me before in friendships where I feel like said friend doesn't like me the way I am and I feel like I have to change myself to please them. But I took time to think about it and thought, well yeh it may please them for now, but would I truly be happy? The answer is no.
If I were to give anyone advice, if they are asking you to change, then they are really not worth it. Don't compromise your own happiness, true friends like you for the way you are.

I completely agree. "Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than you." -Dr. Seuss
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to friends, it's quality over quantity. In high school, even if you've made hundreds of friends, it's important to just take a step back and ask yourself who will be with you during hard times and for what reasons.
Thank you for your comment :) i just wanted to see if others shared my opinion, I find some people are willing to change themselves entirely for others who will leave you as soon as things get hard.
DeletePerhaps these people haven't yet found themselves. Being able to stay true to yourself can sometimes be difficult because the world can at times be cruel to what is unusual. I think it takes a lot of courage, and it's impossible if someone doesn't really know his/her beliefs yet. It happens mostly in younger people, right? So I wouldn't judge too harshly either. Just another thought...
Deleteyes true Riley, I hadnt thought of it that way. I agree, i think its important that people have the courage and acceptance to be who they want to be. Its a shame that society ican be harsh to those who are a little different and so they feel that they cant be themselves. I think people learn more about themeselves with age as people become more mature and gain confidence :) xx
DeleteYeah, for sure! It is definitely a part of growing up. Love your blog by the way ^_^
Deletethanks riley! i'm so happy you like it :) xx
DeleteGreat post and you are absolutely right!!
ReplyDeleteOf course there will always be some sort of compromise, but it should come from both parties whether it's a relationship or friendship. If you change yourself totally for another person you'll never find true happiness.
You just hit the right note darling a pleasure to read!!

DeleteGreat advice, when I was a little bit younger I went through a stage where I changed myself to be accepted. To make a long story short I'm glad I'm no longer friends with that person! Lol
